The jacket liner is the piece to buy first when building a 12V system, for two reasons: it carries the main power connection everything else chains into, and it warms the core, the highest-impact area on the body. Warm the torso and your body sends more blood out to the hands and feet on its own, so the liner makes every other heated piece in the system work better.

Wear It as a Mid-Layer

The liner is built to sit under your riding jacket. The outer shell blocks the wind and holds the heat against you; worn on the outside in the airflow, much of the warmth would simply blow away. Think of it as a heated mid-layer, not a heated coat.
