What makes heated workwear different from a heated jacket?
Durability, mainly. A heated jacket built for spectating or commuting won't survive a season of abrasion, kneeling, and being thrown in a truck bed — and the heating elements are only as durable as the garment wrapped around them. Workwear expects to be treated badly. Look for reinforced fabrics and construction that assumes hard use.
Will the battery last a full shift?
On low, often. On high, no. Manufacturers quote run time from the lowest setting, and an eight to ten hour day outlasts most batteries on anything else. Warm up on high for a few minutes, then drop to low and stay there. A lot of people on long shifts carry a spare pack — cheaper than being cold from noon onward.
What if my job requires specific outerwear?
Then buy a heated vest or base layer and wear it underneath. If you're required to wear hi-vis, flame resistant gear, or a company-issued coat, a heated layer that goes under it heats you without asking you to replace anything — and layering over it actually improves performance, because the outer garment traps the heat.
Is heated workwear safe on a job site?
Heated garments run on low-voltage batteries and are built to warm rather than get hot. But job site requirements vary — if your site has specific standards for flame resistance, arc flash, or hi-vis, check that any garment you buy meets them, and consider a heated layer worn under compliant outerwear rather than as a replacement for it.
