FAQs
What is a heated base layer?
A thin heated shirt or thermal worn against your skin, under everything else. It heats your core directly and adds almost no bulk — which makes it the right choice when your outer layer isn't negotiable: a work uniform, a ski shell, a suit, or a coat you already own and like. Nobody sees it, which is often the entire point.
How should a heated base layer fit?
Snugly — and this is the opposite of how you'd size a heated jacket. Loose fabric holds the heating elements away from your skin and you lose most of the benefit. Fit it the way you'd fit any thermal: close, but not constricting. If you're between sizes, size down rather than up.
Can I wear a heated base layer under a regular jacket?
That's what it's designed for. The base layer heats you underneath, and whatever you wear over it traps that heat rather than letting it escape — so it actually performs better under a coat than on its own. It's also the reason a base layer works where a heated jacket won't: it doesn't ask you to give up the outer layer you already have.
Where does the battery go?
Usually a small pocket at the waist or hip. The garment is thin, but the pack isn't, so check where it sits and whether that position works under what you'll wear on top — a pack at the small of your back can be uncomfortable in a car seat, and one at the waist can conflict with a belt. It's a small detail that becomes a big one after a few hours.
