No — and this is the most useful thing to understand about them. A fan doesn't lower the air temperature; it accelerates the evaporation of sweat off your skin, which is what makes you feel cooler. That means running a fan in an empty room does nothing at all, and running one pointed at you does a great deal. It cools people, not spaces.

Do misting systems work in humid climates?

Poorly, and it's the honest limit. A mister works by evaporating water — and in humid air, the water has nowhere to go, so you just get wet. In dry heat, a patio misting system can drop the perceived temperature substantially. In a humid climate, it mostly makes things damp. Match the tool to your air.
