I purchased 5 pairs of these gloves as gifts, including one pair for myself. When working, they keep hands incredibly warm. However, a few of the gloves do not heat. In looking at the problem, it seems that the on/off switch needs replaced. My purchases were when the products were on clearance sale and at a 50% sale. Hopefully the new models have the switch problem corrected. Without the heating element, the gloves do offer an expected cold protection as other gloves.
