Electricity is produced by a protected motor mount on the hat crown along with a lightweight PVC air guided fan that begins to spin when the motor is energized by sunlight. My son got me one for fathers day. Great hat, fits well and really keeps you cooler in the Alabama sun. Unfortunately I left mine hanging in the mule while working in the shade and one of my goats got a hold of it and ate half the brim off. So just ordered a replacement today. I guess it doubles as hay for the goats in an emergency.
