This is a preliminary review as I've not skied these yet, but have spent several seasons in their green "Surround Thin" sock. I was expecting this new Evo version to be the next incarnation of that green sock, but was shocked by how thick this new one is. "Medium" ski socks I find to be pretty down thick. Ultra thin, unpadded I find to be just that: usually you can see your skin through them. "Thin" can run anywhere from close to ultrathin to being close to medium, depending on manufacturer and model. For me, I'd call these a medium sock erring too thin. They are not bulky, but calling them thin is, to me, a stretch.
The material seems better (softer).
The previous generation socks like that green Surround Thin has the wiring closed in via stitched aspects. For these new socks, there is no more stitching, but rather bonding. It will be very interesting to see if this is more durable than the stitching. I did have to have one of my green socks restitched in places due to wear and tear. I do not agree that the bonded version is any more low profile than the stitched method. I believe the bonding is just cheaper manufacturing.
If you want thin (even though I have not fondled a pair yet), my rec would be to get the Surround Race version or the green Surround Thins (and get used to the abrasive material).
I intend to come back here and update when I've got some days in on these but I just wanted folks to have an idea of what to expect in terms of thickness/build.…
